We have a very active community. Many of our people have great ideas to help solve the problems in our community and City. I will create "Blue Ribbon Commissions" consisting of you, our local stakeholders, to hammer out what we can do to solve these issues. There are many issues, but here are a few of the items I would like to find long term solutions for:
(some of these are not problems, but things I would like to see here)
1. Reduce High School drop out rate. Currently at 50%. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
2. The homeless at Sunland Park
3. Where is Target?
4. Community Gardens / Food sharing
5. Expose corruption and waste in the L.A. government
6. Repeal SB1818
7. Have more local Businesses - I would like to start a "Gateway to the Forest" campaign of businesses to support forest recreation
8. Utilize our local artist community to draw more business and art
9. Reduce dependence on the city services
10. Make Sunland-Tujunga the first All Solar Powered Community in Southern California and feed the extra power back onto the grid for DWP to pay us.
11. A year round pool at the High School.
12. Advertise and/or website for people to find local items they need: jeans, fridge, toaster, milk, etc
13. Add an all motorcycle parade! Perhaps July 4th or another day? Imagine 100's of motorcycles!

Many of these types of problems exist elsewhere. Let's see how other cities have resolved them. Or find our own creative solutions.
We may not get it all done, but if we don't start, it will never get done. Take that first step with me.
