To Do List
We have a very active community. Many of our people have great ideas to help solve the problems in our community and City. I will create "Blue Ribbon Commissions" consisting of you, our local stakeholders, to hammer out what we can do to solve these issues. There are many issues, but here are a few of the items I would like to find long term solutions for:
(some of these are not problems, but things I would like to see here)
1. Reduce High School drop out rate. Currently at 50%. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
2. The homeless at Sunland Park
3. Where is Target?
4. Community Gardens / Food sharing
5. Expose corruption and waste in the L.A. government
6. Repeal SB1818
7. Have more local Businesses - I would like to start a "Gateway to the Forest" campaign of businesses to support forest recreation
8. Utilize our local artist community to draw more business and art
9. Reduce dependence on the city services
10. Make Sunland-Tujunga the first All Solar Powered Community in Southern California and feed the extra power back onto the grid for DWP to pay us.
11. A year round pool at the High School.
12. Advertise and/or website for people to find local items they need: jeans, fridge, toaster, milk, etc
13. Add an all motorcycle parade! Perhaps July 4th or another day? Imagine 100's of motorcycles!
What do you have to add to the list?
Many of these types of problems exist elsewhere. Let's see how other cities have resolved them. Or find our own creative solutions.
We may not get it all done, but if we don't start, it will never get done. Take that first step with me.

Why I Am Running For President of the STNC
Hi, I'm Mark Seigel, and I'm running for President of the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council!
The community needs a fair, unifying and non-polarized leader. Someone
who will listen to all sides and work towards common goals for our
community. I am that leader.
Our community is unique,
strong, outspoken, and active. We have a wonderful town. Possibly the
last true small town in a big city. We like it that way. We live here
because it is that way, and I want to preserve that character.
We
like short buildings and Mom and Pop stores. We like neighbors and
neighborhoods. We care about each other and defend each other in our
community.
Having been a Systems Programmer for many years, I have a unique ability to look through the
rhetoric, smoke and mirrors, and mis-information to identify the core
issues. Once that happens, we can work toward resolution.
Reasons to vote for me:
Experience - I have extensive experience in parliamentary procedure, bylaws, running meetings, participating, and engaging in dialog.
Connectivity
- I am currently a member or have been on the leadership of several
Sunland-Tujunga organizations and you often see me at every community event. I have
developed good working
relationships with people active in those groups as well as City Departments and our City Council Office.
Qualifications -
I was the chairman of the committee to Certify the Neighborhood
Council. We based the bylaws and structure of the council on the
previous Townhall Council to provide a council that was designed to
represent the community - community voices first. This is why the
Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council is seen throughout the City as an
outstanding neighborhood council.
Personal - I have two grown sons. My oldest served in the U.S. Army and is now in law enforcement and my youngest graduated and landed a great job in the computer programming field. My number one hobby is Ham Radio.
Mark's Goals
1. Find Solutions for the Homeless in Tujunga Wash and
Sunland Park
2. Empower STNC Board and Committees to achieve their
goals
3. Work to improve local communications to provide a more
uniform response to major events in our area, including a Ham Radio Station at
North Valley City Hall, phone trees, more Neighborhood Watch groups, website, social media.
4. Improved Community Garden
5. Improved Community Development
6. Work with community groups and organizations
7. Lower the drop out rate of our high school and improve
the education of our children
8. Why the ______ isn't TARGET open and serving our community?
Mark is Qualified
1. Community Advocate: STNC Certification Chair,
Residential Land Use Committee Chair, Worked to Save Weatherwolde Castle
2. Leader: Boy Scout - Wood Badge, Ham Radio FCC
Certified Volunteer Examiner, Chamber of Commerce
3. Certified Neighborhood Council Independent Election
Administrator 2008
4. STNC Board Member - seven years
5. Speaker - No on Measure B Campaign, City Hearings and
Meetings
Reasons to Vote for Mark
1. Fair - I listen to all sides of issues

answer
